Started a new job

When you move from receiving benefits to working, there are a few important things to keep in mind. If you start working full-time, you no longer need to submit time reports. For part-time work, you must report your worked hours on the time report. If you have received a job that starts at a later date, you must continue to look for work in order to keep your benefits."

Now you need to take a few steps to close your benefit period. If you need to apply for benefits again within a year, you will continue on the same benefit period.

  • Submit your final time report to us.

  • Notify the Public Employment Service (Arbetsförmedlingen) that you are no longer seeking benefits.

  • Remember to submit your final activity report to the Arbetsförmedling. This must be done even if you only applied for work one day during the previous month.

From your first day of employment, you are no longer eligible for benefits. Sometimes there is a gap between your last benefit payment and your first salary. Our best tip is to ask your employer for an advance. It is not possible to apply for unemployment benefits for this period, as you are employed and working.

The benefits you may receive depend on how much you worked before becoming unemployed and how much you are working now. You can combine unemployment benefits and work for a maximum of 60 weeks. Here are some important things to keep in mind:

  • Report all work on your time report.

  • Fill in the form Information about work in 'Mina sidor'.

  • Calculate how much you can receive in benefits here.

  • Read more about working while receiving unemployment benefits.

Do I have to look for work if I’ve gotten a new job?

Yes, to be eligible for unemployment benefits, you must both look for and be able to accept work.

  • You can focus your job search on short-term jobs/hourly positions.

  • If you are invited to a job interview, it’s okay to be honest. Then it’s up to the employer to decide whether to offer you the job or not.

  • It is not acceptable to decline a job that would end your unemployment earlier than the job you are waiting to start.

If you don’t want to look for or accept any jobs because of the job you are about to start, that’s completely fine of course. But in that case, you unfortunately won’t receive any unemployment benefits.
